INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (October 20, 2016) – Today, at the American Society of Human Genetics Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Beckman Coulter Life Sciences launched FormaPure DNA, the newest addition to its growing portfolio of nucleic acid isolation, clean up and purification reagent kits. FormaPure DNA is a high-quality, scalable Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) DNA extraction kit that provides beyond fit-for-purpose flexibility. Most notably, it provides significant time savings in the form of reduced turnaround times and less than 15 minutes of hands-on time when automated on a Biomek liquid handler.
Increasingly, FFPE samples are an essential part of many next-generation sample prep workflows, specifically in the field of cancer research. High-quality extraction protocols, focused on yield and purity, are essential to achieving consistent, reliable results.
“Quality DNA from FFPE samples are of the utmost importance to cancer research, but manual sample prep can be error-prone, time-consuming and therefore costly per sample” said Andreas Hahn, director of genomics, Beckman Coulter Life Sciences. “FormaPure DNA provides researchers an automation-ready extraction kit to support their evolving throughput needs and research priorities while allowing them to have more productive time away from the bench.”
Using a Biomek liquid handler in combination with FormaPure DNA, researchers can process 48 samples in approximately 5 hours with less than 15 minutes of hands-on time (including deparafinization). This capability provides cancer researchers the ability to meet their growing sample processing needs. Competitive kits on the market have at least a 7-hour automated processing time, which includes at least 1.5 hours of hands-on time.
FormaPure DNA, currently available in North America, is sold in three kit sizes based on throughput needs. It is not intended or validated for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions.
