What is intensity distribution?

A primary result in any dynamic light scattering experiment is an intensity distribution of particle sizes. The intensity distribution is weighted according to the scattering intensity of each particle fraction. For biological materials or polymers, the particle scattering intensity is proportional to the square of the molecular weight. This can be misleading as a small amount of aggregation or a larger particle type can skew the distribution. Despite this, intensity distribution can be used to detect the presence of large material in the sample.
